SURGE IN CHRISTMAS DAY BOOKINGS FOR SUMMER HOLIDAYS
- No sooner are the presents opened than families are jumping online to book
their summer break - Bookings made on Christmas Day increased 46% from Christmas Day 2023 to
Christmas Day 2024 - Haven expecting record Christmas Day and Boxing Day sales
Last Christmas saw a huge leap in families booking their summer holidays on Christmas
Day itself, according to Haven, the UK’s leading holiday park business.
Holidaymakers may be dreaming of a white Christmas, but bookings data shows that on
Christmas Day people are increasingly turning their attention to summer sunshine and
British seaside holidays soon after finishing the roast turkey.
Historically Christmas Day had very little booking activity, but in recent years bookings
have increased from a flurry to a blizzard with a 46% increase on Christmas Day 2024
alone and Haven anticipating record breaking Christmas Day bookings this year.
Unlike Father Christmas, there is no rest to be had on Boxing Day, with last year seeing a
28% year-on-year increase in bookings activity, and guest reservations made during the
rest of Christmas week up 32% on the previous year. Haven expects to take thousands
of bookings over Christmas and Boxing Day this year.
Simon Palethorpe, CEO, Haven said:
“Once the presents are unwrapped, carols sung and turkey stripped, more families are
using their time together to book their Easter and summer holidays. Not only is selecting
your family holiday on Christmas Day less likely to lead to a row than a board game –
booking early with Haven can result in a great deal and big savings compared to those
who book later.”
For example, booking a holiday in January 2025 the average price of a Bronze standard
caravan was £621, however deferring the decision to book until May saw the price rise
12% on average to £693.
