- The Alfred Wainwright, a new J D Wetherspoon pub at Haven’s Lakeland Holiday Park in Cumbria, opened on Tuesday at 8am
- Haven’s Cala Gran, Riviere Sands and Hopton holiday parks will also see new J D Wetherspoon pubs open this spring
Haven, the UK’s leading holiday park operator, with 39 parks in prime coastal locations, officially opened its doors to its latest on‑park J D Wetherspoon pub, ‘The Alfred Wainwright’ at its Lakeland Holiday Park in Cumbria.
Brand new for spring this year, three other onsite J D Wetherspoon pubs will launch at Cala Gran in Blackpool, Hopton in Norfolk and Riviere Sands in Cornwall following a £9 million investment.
During the peak summer season, more than 100 team members will be working at the new venue, which can accommodate up to 440 holidaymakers.
The Alfred Wainwright will serve breakfast from 8am and remain open until midnight Monday to Sunday in July and August, and until 10pm from March to June and September to November. The bar will serve real ale, a range of wines, craft beers and cocktails, while the food menu will feature traditional breakfasts, fish and chips, burgers and pizzas.
Andrea Massey, General Manager, Haven Lakeland said, “This is a fantastic addition to Lakeland Holiday Park and something we know our guests and owners have been eagerly anticipating. We’re thrilled to kick off the season by opening the doors to our brand new pub.”
The pub is named after Alfred Wainwright, the British fell walker, whose maps have become the standard reference works for the Lake District’s 214 fells.
As is traditional, the pub has a unique carpet design inspired by the locality. The design features circular motifs inspired by Banksy’s Borrowdale sculpture, as well as the natural forms of local plants. Elements such as daffodils, marsh parnassia, and sea aster flowers are intricately woven into the pattern, reflecting the region’s distinctive flora.
