Haven holidaymakers and holiday homeowners Create Flowerpot crew mates for the Friendly Forrester Lifeboat in support of the Flamborough Flowerpot Festival
Haven holidaymakers and holiday homeowners at Thornwick Bay Holiday Park have taken up the call to go potty, in support of Flamborough Flowerpot Festival.
Throughout June, guests of all ages at the holiday park can enjoy free Potty Model-Making craft sessions and help create a crew made of plant pots to festoon the former Friendly Forrester lifeboat, ready for the park to mark its 70th anniversary and celebrate the life-saving service it once gave, later this summer.
The Friendly Forrester lifeboat features on the printed Flamborough Village Trail Map, which shows where Potty Models are located and has been printed with the support of the Haven Thornwick Holiday Village. Fundraising maps cost £2 and are on sale at several local outlets, including cafes and local shops with all profits donated to Flamborough Pre-School
Kelly Newland, Thornwick Bay General Manager at Haven, said, “We are thrilled to get potty. We’re passionate about ‘giving back’ wherever we can and involving our team and holidaymakers. When we were approached by the festival organisers we were more than happy to join in the fun, which has also included hosting three fundraising quizzes at our North Landing venue, helping the committee to raise funds for the event.
“Just like the Flamborough Flowerpot Festival, the decommissioned Friendly Forrest lifeboat which resides at the park, holds a special place in the warm hearts of Flamborough's residents - with people who even served on the lifeboat still living in the village, so it seems fitting to make the boat the focal point of our festivities. We are proud to be playing a part and hope that the local community will join us in September when we come together to wish the Friendly Forester a happy 70th birthday too.” Kelly Newland added.
Haven recovered the Friendly Forester from retirement and brought it back home to Flamborough where it was originally stationed as a working lifeboat between 1953 and 1983.
